I just think there is something dangerous about someone who describes themselves, first and foremost, as an “Idea Guy”. I’d much rather partner with someone who described themselves as a “coder with good ideas” or a “sales guru with good ideas” or somesuch.

I mentioned in another post a quote about startups that essentially said that building a startup is like jumping off a cliff and trying to build an airplane on the way down. A pure-play “idea guy” doesn’t add a lot to the process (and oftentimes can be a distraction).

The first ones are the ones described by you. The second ones are startup founders who already work at those or others ideas probably. I have a lot of ideas but I already have a plan under development and it includes a few of those ideas. What do I do with the rest? Well, I’m not afraid of sharing them with others who might be interested in founding startups, that’s why I also consider myself an Idea guy. Though I’ve never said mine are better than the others. :)

I particularly like your sentiment that everyone in a startup needs to be building something.
