Tony Wright Biography
If you're looking for a more professional-centric view of who I am, check out my online resume (well, it's really more of an informal professional chronology).
Tony Wright is the founder of PangoMedia, Inc (an Anchorage Web Design & Programming Company) and GoJobby.com (An online resume posting site and recruiting app). He (I!?) current is Direct of Product Development at Jobster.
Tony was born in Des Moines, Iowa, but spent most of his youth near Washington, D.C. He went to St. Andrews Episcopal School (in Bethesda, Md at the time-- it has since moved to snooty Potomac, Md), and graduated with a Psychology degree from Washington College in Chestertown, Md.
After graduating college, Tony drove west with his brother Geoff, exploring the northern United States. Given how painfully hot the trip was, the two decided to turn north upon hitting the Pacific Ocean, and extended their trip through Canada and (finally) Alaska. After a month in Alaska, Tony decided he was going to stay.
Professionally, Tony has largely spent most of his career in the IT industry. After a short stint as a consultant down in Chicago (during the dotcom boom) Tony returned to Anchorage, Alaska to found PangoMedia, Inc, a web design and programming firm, which has grown about 600% in the last 6 years (right through the dotcom bust, thank you very much!). Tony has been a public speaker on all sorts of web-related topics, including one of his favorites, "How to Write for the World Wide Web".
In 2004, Tony sold his ownership of PangoMedia to work on Jobby, a web 2.0 startup with an aim to to provide an online employment destination that allowed job seekers and employers to accomplish their goals faster and more effectively. Michael Arrington of TechCrunch.com states that “The results are quite stunning and I can easily see other services (not necessarily in the job space) copying some of these features.” (full article). Within four months of launching, Jobby was acquired by Jobster. As part of the acquisition, Tony relocated to Seattle to work with Jobster as the Director of Product Development.
